Thoughts on Cemeteries

Cemeteries were originally for both the living and the dead. In many early cemeteries monuments to the dead were as much for living. Families would picnic and take Sunday strolls amongst the tombstones. Before the advent if the “memorial garden” style cemeteries with few or no trees or walkways and in most cases no monuments, cemeteries were places of green trees and walkways as well as headstones that were engraved with poetry or epitaphs that portrayed words or deeds that were of value to the dead in life.
